New Curtains

Yes, we’ve been in our apartment now for over 9 months and we just decided on curtains for the living room. Although apartment living can sure throw a curveball into your design aesthetic. After learning that putting more holes in apartment walls = less money from your deposit, we came up with a new solution for hanging curtains. Curtain Rod + 3M Command Hooks + Curtain = Viola! A hanging strategy that easily comes off when you need it and doesn’t damage the walls!

Playing Cards

Mike and Sara came over a few weekends ago and we had such a great time. We played an exhilarating round of spades that lasted about two hours! And of course what do you do after a crazy card game, watch a little Bear Grylls “Man Vs. Wild” and then head off to bed at 10:00. Crazy weekend! I guess we’re both old married couples now.

Puppy Chow

Last night we made puppy chow! Although it is ridiculously delicious, we need to start lowering our portion size. Last time we made puppy chow, we made a double batch and it was gone within the week. We were hoping to make this batch last longer, but after "sampling" it last night after we made it, I proceeded to watch Ryan eat puppy chow for breakfast this morning...and then I packed it for both of our lunches today. What can we say? We're puppy chow obsessed!

Labor Day Weekend

It seems like we had been planning a girls trip to San Diego forever, each of us (mom, brie and amberly) were looking forward to it for so long, and then it went by WAY too FAST! A little background...Brie (Amberly's sister) is getting married next March in San Diego, CA, where Brie lives now. For mom's birthday gift the kids decided that it would be a great present for her to fly out to San Diego and see where the wedding events would take place! So...Friday, Sept. 4th we headed out to the west coast!

It was mom's second time flying, but she did really great this time! We got the chance to see Brie's reception and ceremony spaces, helped Brie pick out a bridal gown, and had a bridal luncheon with the other bridesmaids. We also got the opportunity to take a Sea World tour, got in a little shopping, had breakfast in Ocean Beach, and got our sunbathing in on Labor Day. Overall a GREAT trip! We can't wait to go back next year!

While Amberly was away, Ryan enjoyed his Labor Day at Lake Okoboji with his family. Lots of hanging out, water skiing, and even came home with some yummy banana bread!

We're looking forward to a run tonight and for Husker and Vikings Football this weekend!!!! Go BIG RED and SKOL VIKINGS!

Weeder Wedding

We had a great time at the Weeder Wedding on Saturday, August 29th! The church was gorgeous, the bride was beautiful and the day was wonderful! It was great to catch up with some college friends and just kick back for an evening! This is one wedding neither Ryan nor Amberly were in, so we got the chance to enjoy it all! And the buffet... multiple times! A quick shout-out to Shannon Whistler...thanks for reading! :)

We also got the chance that Friday to have a couples dinner with our friends Todd and Jeannine Bryant and Lucas and Katie Carroll and their beautiful daughter, Grace. It was so much fun to catch up and re-hash the last few months and everything that has been going on. We even got to see Grace toddle around and show us her skills of walking! She's especially cute when she turbo runs and sticks her arms straight down. Looking forward to many more couples dinners!

Lost Ring

Saturday night, Amberly's parents came to visit after moving Jared into his new apartment in Lincoln. We enjoyed a nice home made Italian meal complete with 4 cheese penne pasta, caesar salad, home-made bread and green beans. After we were sufficiently stuffed we headed out to run a few errands and get mom and dad some Panera Bread goodies for breakfast the next morning. As we relaxed for the remainder of the evening and as Amberly dished up brownies a la mode, Ryan informed us that he had dropped his ring.

Now...Ryan has been known to play with his wedding ring and has dropped it in interesting places, more than once in the car, underneath the table at dinner, at the movies, and at a work conference where it happened to roll a few rows of seats in front of him....and who knows where else! Amberly is now used to this and is thinking that it might be time to start a new wedding ring fund for Ryan. As the brownies were warming up, I could see Ryan digging his hand into the side of the couch.

That's when I knew he had lost his wedding ring...again. Ryan asked for my tiny hands to see if I could reach the ring inside the couch. However this time the ring wasn't wedged into the side of the couch it had fallen inside the actual frame of the couch. After lots of deliberation, flipping the couch on its side and figuring and re-figuring where exactly the ring could be, the scissors came out. We ended up cutting the batting on the bottom of the couch to find the ring. And Thankfully it was a success...the ring was found! I think I'll still keep the ring fund going, just in case.

Long Over Due

We apologize for the ridiculously long time between posting. Has it really almost been a month since our last post? Yikes….sorry again. The fun never ends with the Austads. The beginning of August brought a visit from our friend Stephanie from Dallas. We spent the evening celebrating our friend Betsy’s 25th birthday with dinner and dancing. After a fun-filled weekend with friends we spent Sunday hanging out and even went to a house viewing of our favorite home here in Omaha.

Oh geeze, what else has happened? Amberly got a new car, in-laws visited from Sioux Falls, had a BBQ at Mike and Sara Rubin’s, and last but not least…spent a wonderful weekend in Minnesota. Last weekend, we headed to Minnesota to enjoy a mini-vacation. We saw a twins game, enjoyed a nice Italian meal and oh yeah….we went to the PGA Championship and saw Tiger completely lose it on the last day. Mr. Y E Yang pulled it off to be the first Asian-born player to capture a major title…quite exciting.

This week is sure to keep us busy too! Already we’ve had a new haircut (Amberly’s- super short, but super cute) and we’re looking forward to a round of golf with Mike and Sara, a dinner with Amberly’s parents and dinner with cousins, kim, kelli and greg Sunday night at Lo Sole Mio.

We can’t believe its already the last few weeks of August…really, where does the time go? Enjoy this wonderful weather!!!
